Presentation of an adaptation of the performance “Mulheres Móveis” (Mobile Women), a creation by ASTRO FINGIDO – Cultural Association.
“Mulheres Móveis” is a documentary and fictional journey through the stories and memories of the “carreteiras”—women who carried furniture on their heads in the municipality of Paredes in times gone by. A visual and musical performance that aims to honor these women, drawing from their testimonies and the imaginative contributions of Italian poet Tonino Guerra. Maria, Letinha, Justa, and Sãozinha represent the last of the “carreteiras,” those who bring us the testimony of a time of poverty and hard labor without reward. However, the words of Tonino Guerra did not allow us to paint their era in gray, because “poverty aids fantasy. In poverty, one lives under a rain of suspended desires.” It was this path of pain and sacrifice, punctuated by moments of joy and strong solidarity, that we sought to follow.
